It was announced yesterday that the New York Rangers MSG networks has reached a carriage deal with communications provider Optimum after months of negotiations which appeared to go nowhere.
MSG Networks is home to the New York Rangers, Knicks, Islanders the Buffalo Sabres and New Jersey Devils who carry their content through many areas of the northeast part of the United States.
Standoff over between both parties
It was noted that no details have been released on how an agreement was reached but the biggest issue between both parties was optimum's idea of moving MSG to a higher tier which caused the regional sports network to resist.
This dispute also had several pushes towards telling viewers to go to Verizon's Fios TV as a way for them to see their Rangers and other teams mentioned.
It's unclear how many users have changed carriers because of this dispute but it's safe to say that there will be some damage control and some PR work needed to be done in order to recoup some of their lost subscribers.
Rangers hope to make push for the playoffs
With the carriage deal in place, the Rangers are preparing for their push towards a playoff spot and also the trade deadline as the team feels that they are close to getting back on track.
The Rangers were sitting three points out of a playoff spot before yesterday's games and the team will face an uphill battle as other teams will continue to make their push towards a playoff spot as well.
The next two weeks will be critical for general manager Chris Drury as he will need to make major decisions on the roster and whether the team needs to sell some of its talent.
If the Rangers do not make the playoffs or fall out of favour, it's likely they will sell off some of their pending unrestricted free agents and commence a small retool.
If they have a fast start, then the team will attempt to be a buyer and try to will themselves into the playoffs as they're quite close in the standings.
It will be a fascinating time for Rangers fans and the rest of the NHL as the league sprints to the end of this great season.
