Newest member of the team completes surprising move with the Rangers
When players arrive from different teams, often they will change many things, including their numbers.
Reilly Smith usually wears #19, but will have to change it, as that number is retired in honor of Jean Ratelle.
Smith was acquired in order to boost offensive weaponry on the top-six for the Rangers.
He will instead wear #91 which was last worn by Alexander Wennberg, prior to that by Vladimir Tarasenko, Sammy Blais, Evgeny Grachev, and Markus Naslund.
With the Penguins Smith scored 40 points(13 G, 27 A) in 76 games in 2023-2024.
«We're very excited to get Reilly, a player we've been looking at and talking about for a while,» Rangers president and general manager Chris Drury said. «Brings a lot of versatility to our lineup, has a winning pedigree having won in Vegas. A proven playoff performer and I think just fits in nicely with our entire group. We just were talking to a lot of different agents and a lot of balls in the air throughout the day, and just felt this was the best move we can make.»
Smith was the Rangers biggest trade during the offseason, it'll be interesting to see where the veteran can make an impact on the Rangers roster.
