NHL managers showing no interest in this Rangers forward
According to Arthur Staple of the Athletic, Rangers forward Kappo Kakko has not drawn any interest from NHL managers in terms of a trade.
«The deal with Kappo Kakko now, after five pro seasons and 300 NHL games, is that he's not a player other teams are coveting,» The Athletic's Arthur Staple wrote. «Teams surely want him, and I'd guess Drury has received offers but nothing good he's a buy-low player now.»
For the past several weeks, the Rangers have been shopping Kakko to see if any team would be willing to pick up his newly signed one-year deal worth $2.4 million. This contract was the qualifying offer the Rangers gave him, and it was to help sweeten the deal as it would give general managers cost certainty at least for one season.
But with most teams having spent their money, it's likely Kakko will remain with the Rangers for the duration of his contract. This past season, the 23-year-old forward had scored thirteen goals, with six assists for 19 points through 61 games.
Many felt that he would be a superstar with the Rangers, but his development has been glacially slow and will likely continue this season.
Having played his entire career with the Rangers thus far and lock him down a one-year deal could mean a turn in play, but it remains to be seen.
