Newly appointed head coach, Peter Laviolette, is spearheading the Rangers' initiative to rediscover their identity, develop a winning mentality, and make that final jump from playoff contenders to Stanley Cup Champions.

As the third coach in four seasons for the Rangers', his arrival in the offseason brought in another system, another philosophy and another coaching style.

The championship expectations remain the same.

The 58-year-old boss is leading the charge in a manner that has commanded respect around the Rangers' locker room.

Even though he liked what he saw in the preseason, where the Rangers' went 1-5, he still sent a message to the team, about seeing them a certain way offensively while answers questions from the media:

Peter Laviolette does have a point here. The team, offensively, looked timid and disconnected, throughout the preseason.

Scoring only 12 goals while allowing 21 in six games. The Rangers averaged 3.33 goals per game last season, good for ninth in the NHL and have the potential to be a high-scoring team again.

Peter Laviolette's system is designed to foster an aggressive offense, one that encourages puck possession and defensemen joining the rush.

There will be no shortage of opportunities for the defensemen to get in on the goal-scoring action.

The Rangers' have the foundation and the tools to compete for a Stanley Cup. Lets just hope his methods will resonate with the team to start the season and beyond.

The Rangers open the season Thursday, October 12, against the Buffalo Sabres, at KeyBank Center, in Buffalo.
