It appears that GM Chris Drury and the Rangers, have set the terms of Kakko's survival in New York.

Perform well, and you get to stay and if you underperform this is it, so Kakko's last straw has been pulled.

Kakko has been on the market all off-season, and after signing his 1-year, $2.4 M deal, it appeared he'd have been dealt to a rebuilding team. But none would bite, including the Calgary Flames.

While one would've thought he would've been traded during the early off-season, he could be moved before the start of the regular season. It seems for now though, it's just too much too late.

Kakko was thought to be a monumental piece for the Rangers future, being selected 2nd overall in 2019. But hasn't lived up to expectations.

It is now year five in the NHL, and he has yet to perform up to what was thought a 2nd over pick should be.

The 23-year-old's last chances could be this season with the Rangers, and for now it shows they're not willing to give him up for nothing.

It's time for Kakko to live up to expectations or be dealt in 2025, as the likely scenario.
