Rangers Beat Hated Divisional Rival To Achieve Franchise History
With today's 3-2 shootout victory over the Islanders, the 2023-24 Rangers have broken a franchise record for single-season wins with 54!
They are assured to finish ahead of all but three teams in the NHL standings.
Only four teams are part of the Presidents Trophy race: Dallas, Boston & Carolina.
Braden Schneider, who scored a major shorthanded goal today, addresses the media on the Rangers win over the Islanders:
"It was a really emotional game, it was really intense and it was a lot of fun."
The Rangers also recorded their 28th comeback win of the season, which surpassed the franchise record for most in a season, achieved in the 2021-2022 season.
The Rangers can lock up first in the Metropolitan Division if the Hurricanes lose in any fashion to the Blackhawks on Sunday.
If that doesn't happen, the Rangers will lock it up with a win against the Senators on Monday.
Carolina has one more regulation win, which is the first tiebreaker after 82 games.
