The Philadelphia Flyers are about to face a serious legal battle after they placed Ryan Johansen on waivers to terminate his contract.

Earlier today the Flyers, placed Ryan Johansen on waivers due to a «material breach» of his contract. This comes after Johansen didn't report to the team after being traded by the Colorado Avalanche, the reason reported was because he sustained an injury.

Many fans and analysts believe Johansen was just trying to avoid a reunion with former head coach John Tortorella. However, the Flyers feel like this «injury» was an attempt to avoid playing but still collect his full pay, as Johansen didn't reveal this until he was traded to Philadelphia.

NHL insider, Chris Johnston reported that Ryan Johansen has 60 days to file a grievance against the Flyers, likely resulting in Johansen being compensated by the Flyers and his contract terminated.

It didn't take Johansen long as he would end up filing a grievance with the NHLPA, as his agent Kurt Overhardt, confirmed this in a recent statement.

Overhardt also stated that Johansen has a severe injury and requires surgery, which has been scheduled.
