With Jimmy Vesey out on injury for a few weeks, the Rangers lineup has been opened up.

Those who want to compete for Vesey's spot will have the chance, and some of the forwards who could make a leap into the position are Sam Carrick, Matt Rempe, and Jonny Brodzinski.
Many other players who are up from Hartford or on PTO could end up making the team as well, whether it is the 13th forward spot, or on the 4th line.
«That's what training camp is about, it's an opportunity for guys to step up,» Laviolette said Monday. «I do think some guys have had good camps, and that's the evaluation process. We're still going on, we still have three games left, so those evaluations are still taking place.»

The Rangers have three preseason games left, with two against the Devils( Monday, and Tuesday) and the New York Islanders(Friday).
They'll have until October 9th to evaluate who will make the team, while Vesey is gone.
The Rangers will have to dig into the depth options they have available, and luckily enough they have two from Hartford and one PTO.

Adam Erne

One of them could be Adam Erne who is playing not only for a job but for the love of the team. Erne isn't guaranteed a roster spot, let alone a contract, but has 379 games of NHL experience. He could be a defensive option used on the PK.
As time dwindles he could find himself on his hometown team, if he can impress Laviolette and company.
The next could be Adam Edstrom who has been a factor in multiple preseason games He's added two goals during rookie camp against the Flyers, using his physicality to drive the play. He's also added 3 more points during training camp.
The 6-foot-7 forward skated in 11 games with the Rangers last season, scoring two goals and averaging 8:24 of ice time. He and Rempe, who's 6-foot-8, have had stints playing together throughout camp, and could make up a very large fourth line centered by an experienced pro like Carrick or Brodzinski.

Brennan Othmann

Othamann might be more suited for a top-six role, but the 16th overall pick in 2021 could end up making the bottom-six if he continues to play to the Rangers' liking. While the Rangers do have solid depth to choose from, there's no reason Othmann shouldn't be considered for the fourth-line spot.

While he might end up back in Hartford, Laviolette has said this about Othmann:

But don't count Othmann out just yet. When asked if he could be a suitable fourth-line option, Laviolette «wouldn't say that's out of the question.» There will certainly be an evaluation period over the next several days to see if Othmann is in fact the best choice to fill that role.
