Over the last few weeks, there has been tons of speculation around the National Hockey League that the Carolina Hurricanes were making impending unrestricted free agent Jake Guentzel available for a mid-round draft pick.
According to insider Frank Seravalli, a number of teams are noted to be serious suitors for Guentzel, including the New York Rangers.
However, Guentzel made quite the impact when he joined the Hurricanes with registering 25 points in 17 games with a +16 rating, then added another nine points in 11 playoff games. So the Canes just wont surrender Guentzel without receiving a fair return.
As the Hurricanes gave up a lot to acquire him form the Pittsburgh Penguins, including Michael Bunting, forward prospects Vasily Ponomarev and Ville Koivunen, the rights to forward Cruz Lucius, and what turns out to be a second-round draft pick.
