Rangers Top Prospect Gabe Perrault's gushing review by Boston College Teammate Cutter Gauthier
There's been news that New York Rangers fans should be hyped about, and it's regarding top prospect Gabriel Perreault.
Perreault was teammates with Anaheim Ducks forward, Cutter Gauthier in the NCAA, with the Boston College Eagles.
He was asked about his former teammate in the NCAA and gave a gushing review of Perreault's abilities on the ice.
«He's sick,» Gauthier said about Perreault. «He's got like 10 eyes on his head. He can see everything. (He) can make plays out of his a- that I have never seen before. We played together on the power play and he made life so easy. He was feeding me pucks that not a lot of guys (were able) to
Perreault's freshman year in the NCAA ended with a 60-point season scoring 19 goals, and 41 assists. The 2023 1st round Rangers pick ended up second in the nation in assists, and fourth in the NCAA in points.
Gauthier played on the same team in the NCAA as Perreault. Gauthier's sophomore year saw him put up 65 points, with 38 goals, in 41 games leading the NCAA.
The Perreault and Gauthier combination would help lead the Eagles to the NCAA championship. Unfortunately, they'd lose to Denver. Later in the offseason, Gauther would force a trade from Philadelphia to Anaheim.
Gauthier only has 3 points in 8 games, as a rookie for the Ducks and is on the hunt for his first NHL goal.
Perreault has 7 points( 2 G, 5 A) in his sophomore campaign at Boston College.
«He's definitely NHL-ready mentally,» Gauthier offered.
Perreault would attend Rangers training camp this year, and wouldn't discuss his plans to turn pro. He instead focused on returning to college, to continue his development, and maybe even win an NCAA championship.
«Just focused on having another big year at school hopefully win the national championship and then when that times I'll probably discuss it with my family, my agent, obviously the Rangers see where they think I'm at, see where I think I'm at and make a decision from there,» Perreault said.
Perreault's been considered an excellent playmaker with a vision on the ice exceeding his age at only 19. His ability to think far beyond his opponents on the ice, and could help his long-term abilities in the NHL when he does decide to turn pro.
Could he be the next big Rangers prospect who makes the team out of camp?
Scott Wheler called Perreault a «slick one-on-one player» is his summer prospect rankings in The Athletic and a «clever-beyond-belief facilitator and playmaker who plays the game with a light touch and a heady spatial awareness of not only where his teammates are, but where he is in the flow of play (and relative to defenders).»
