This past Friday NHL Insider Larry Brooks reported the New York Rangers were rumored to have Ottawa Senators forward Brad Tkachuk, as a trade target.

After getting wind of this, Senators GM Steve Staios and the local Ottawa media would repudiate the rumors.

«Rangers GM Chris Drury may have some explaining to do to the Senators organization due to this talk,» Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen wrote. «Staios won't be the least bit pleased to hear Tkachuk's name floating around out there. It's believed Staios planned to have a conversation with Tkachuk to reiterate there is absolutely nothing to this.»

Garrioch writes that a source called the Tkachuk report «garbage.»

It appears GM Staios didn't take too kindly to these discussions making it to the wire, as Staios has a different philosophy of negotiating behind the scenes.

This was the culmination of trade talks after NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman may have been sinking ships, dropping rumors that the Rangers and Senators were discussing a trade.

The fallout has continued, as TSN's Darren Dreger, and Staios would refuse to entertain the notion anything was going on.

Is this a major repudiation of one of the league's biggest "Insiders" what does this say about the credibility of Friedman and Drury?

«Complete B.S.,'' Staios said in May of rumors involving Tkachuk. «We are building this team around Brady. His leadership and unique skill set are rare. There is absolutely no validity to it.»

There are a lot of conflicting reports on the communication between the Rangers and Senators, so it's hard to really know what to believe at the moment.

So, is there some kind of miscommunication involved, or is there a legitimate grievance to be had by the Senators?

«Complete B.S.,'' Staios said in May of rumors involving Tkachuk. «We are building this team around Brady. His leadership and unique skill set are rare. There is absolutely no validity to it.»

Either way, you have to think someone's feelings are hurt and this could blow up in the Rangers faces if Staios refuses to become a trade partner with the Rangers as a result!

It appears that GM Chris Drury may not be able to make much of a splash during the trade deadline, as they only have $7.8 Million in cap space currently, and still need talent in the top-six to be the cup-contending team as advertised.

With Brett Berard out on injury, and Jacob Trouba being dealt to Anaheim, will March be the biggest month of the year for the team, or just another underwhelming slog?
