I guess a reporter got nervous when speaking to the Rangers' former No. 1 pick, Alexis Lafreniere, after Thursday's 5-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres, in the locker room for media availability.

While Alexis Lafreniere was answering a question, a reporter accidently dropped his phone right in front of Lafrenière, clearly catching him by surprise.

Of course it was laughed off as a joke and Lafrenière continued with answering the question he was first asked.

The bigger story is the opening goal of the season for the Rangers, coming from the stick of Lafrenière himself.

The Quebecer was poised throughout the game, even outside the opening goal. The Panarin-Chytil-Lafrenière line out-shot Buffalo, 10-1.

They controlled the tempo of the game when they were out there on the ice, and made it difficult for the Sabres to execute any offensive plays. It's possible he may have heard the outside rumbling of his performances in the preseason and training camp.

But it was important for him to show up, and show up early. To maintain a level of confidence we might not have yet seen from him. Peter Laviolette reminded everyone after the game that he thought Lafrenière had his two best practices on Tuesday and Wednesday.

"He had a couple of really good practices, those were his best practices in training camp. To me, he took a step from those practices and took it into the game. I thought the line was excellent." -Peter Laviolette

Let's hope he stays confident after the great win and takes it up the level that is expected from a No. 1 pick. The Rangers' next game will be against the Columbus Blue Jackets, Saturday, October 14, at the Nationwide Arena, in Columbus, Ohio.
