The New York Rangers have coveted Canucks forward JT Miller. Now, GM Patrik Allvin of the Canucks wants to get his hands onAlexis Lafreniere, will he succeed?

With discussions between NHL teams ongoing before the trade deadline arrives in March, the Canucks and Rangers are two teams who have been in the rumor mill recently.

While GM Chris Drury wanted to do whatever he could to get JT Miller to return to the Rangers, GM Patrik Allvin covets Alexis Lafreniere.

Could GM Chris Drury think of parting ways with the 1st overall pick in 2020, to be a key piece in a blockbuster trade in March?

According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Rangers are highly interested in acquiring J.T. Miller, but the possibility of including Lafreniere as part of the return remains uncertain. «The Rangers covet Miller. Great, but does New York have an appetite to include Alexis Lafreniere, not Mika Zibanejad, as the centerpiece of a large return?» Pagnotta wrote.

Lafreniere was signed to a seven-year $52 Million deal with the Rangers over the summer. The thought was that Lafreniere would be a key piece in the team's future. This season however, he's had issues with consistency, after scoring 57 points in 2023-2024.

He has been another disappointing piece in the Rangers lineup this season, if the Rangers are to make the playoffs they need him 100% bought in.

GM Chris Drury attempted a one-for-one swap of Zibanejad and couldn't pull it off, so he may have to consider a player with more upside.

Reports from The Athletic suggest that the Rangers previously proposed a one-for-one swap involving Mika Zibanejad for Miller, which Vancouver declined. With Miller and Elias Pettersson both drawing interest on the market, the Canucks appear intent on leveraging their assets to secure high-upside players like Lafreniere.

This season Lafreniere looks like the player before 2023-2024, struggling to produce even after being placed on a line with Artemi Panarin, and Vinnie Troecheck.

He's scored 24 points (11 G, 13 A) in 41 games, with a -12.

Despite this, his offensive potential could draw suitors to the Rangers. Will GM Chris Drury be bold enough to consider moving Lafreniere?
