Tragic news strikes New York sports as legendary Rangers broadcaster Al Trautwig passes away at 68

Tragic news strikes the New York Rangers as legendary broadcaster and iconic figure of New York sports has sadly passed away.

It was confirmed earlier today by several insiders that former New York Knicks and New York Rangers broadcaster Al Trautwig has sadly passed away at the age of 68.
MSG Networks successor, Alan Hahn broke the tragic news that Trautwig sadly passed away two days before his birthday as he would've turned 69-years old.
Here's Hahn's heartfelt tribute to the late Trautwig:
"I'm sad to share the news that we lost a legendary voice in sports. But we lost a lot more than that," Hahn said. "He was not only a friend, but a mentor and a teacher. He was, personally, one of my biggest resources of support when I moved into this career. Rest in peace, Al Trautwig."
Trautwig had been a fixture at MSG Network, hosting pre and postgame studio shows for the New York Rangers along with the NBA New York Knicks and MLB New York Yankees broadcasts. In 2019, he last appeared on the network before taking an extended break.
2019 was the last time Trautwig appeared on the network before taking an extended break, it was later revealed that he was suffering from cancer.
In a 2024 Newsday article by Neil Best, Trautwig was said to have been undergoing treatment for cancer before continuing to teach at Long Island-based Adelphi University, his hometown.
