Sharks Head Coach Says Goodrow Has "Moved On" From the New York Rangers
During the South Carolina Stingrays Fan Fest at the North Charleston Coliseum, San Jose Sharks Head Coach Ryan Warsofsky was recently asked about Barclay Goodrow.
He coached the South Carolina Stingrays from 2016 to 2018 when he started coaching professional hockey.
«We talked for a while and he's in a good place and he's excited,» Warsofsky, who visited Goodrow in his hometown Toronto, said. «He's obviously been in San Jose before, and he knows some of the guys. He and [captain Logan Couture] are really close, so that helps. I think he's kind of turned the page on New York now. This is a business and that's part of life And he's responded great. He's all bought in and I'm excited because he's a big piece of our team and I think he's excited, too.»
When the Sharks had claimed Goodrow and his $3.64 Million dollar cap hit, after being waived by Chris Drury and the Rangers, it was revealed that the Sharks were on his 15-team no-trade list.
The report was Goodrow was unhappy with how the situation played out, considering how the Rangers circumvented his own no-trade list to move him.
Since then he's been the only Sharks player who hasn't spoken to media all summer.
Has time healed those wounds?
It could be more of a fact that Goodrow was more accustomed and preferred competitive hockey, whereas the Sharks have been a dumpster-fire organization lately.
While he's seen significant post-season played in San Jose in 2019, Tampa Bay in 2020-2021, and with the Rangers in 2022, and 2024.
It sounds as if Goodrow is ready to assume his new role in San Jose as a mentor to players like Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith.
He will be key in getting the Sharks out of the cellar and into the light once more.
