The Fight For The Metropolitan Division Coming Down To The Wire
It's all come down to this. The final two games of the regular season.
The Rangers have blown their last two games to finish their season early, and will now need to fight to the wire, just to hold their slim one point lead for the Metropolitan Division, the Eastern Conference, and if they are just as ambitious, the President Trophy.
The Carolina Hurricanes beat the St. Louis Blues 4-2, keeping the Rangers magic number to clinch not only the division, but the Eastern Conference, at 3. Here is the updated standings.
There is no longer a margin of error.
The Rangers must win tomorrow!
They are tied with the Hurricane for regulation wins with 42, but thankfully hold the regulation and overtime wins tiebreaker over them with 50, compared to 49 for the Hurricanes.
If the Rangers win tomorrow, they can lose in overtime against the Ottawa Senators on Monday and even clinch the President Trophy.
Of course other scenarios will help, with both the Bruins and Hurricane losing.
But best to control our own destiny and end the season on a high note.
