The New York Rangers PR X account(formerly known as Twitter), has just posted how much the team spends on the defensive zones and offensive zones of each game, thanks to the new feature.
The Rangers ranking second in the league for most time spent in the offensive zone and ranking third for the least amount of time spent in the defensive zone is very impressive.
But why the unimpressive record?
It's a combination of things.
For one, yes the Rangers are one of the best in keeping away the puck from their own defensive zone, but they have allowed plenty of breakaway and high danger chances for the opposition to score an easy goal, thus teams don't need to spend much time in their offensive zone if they get a quick goal.
Another is a bit of sheer bad luck. In the two losses to the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Nashville Predators, they had three goals reversed due to offsides.
Hopefully the Rangers can assess and figure out these issues and get on a nice winning streak to prepare for their mid season form a couple months from now.
It's still a long season, we will continue to see what this team is made of.
