General manager Chris Drury is working hard with his team on two fronts, one on the entry draft and the second is with unrestricted free agency which will begin on July 1st.

The Rangers have some issues in their lineup even though they were able to amassed 55 wins this season which was a new record for the team and go 3 rounds into the playoffs. While scoring especially five on five was a big concern for the team, they only have $9.2 million to work with and several players will need new contracts including Braden Schneider and Ryan Lindgren.

One route the team could go would be the trade route as they would need to free up a big contract to make room for more depth down their lineup. One factor that creeped into the Eastern Conference finals was injuries to their defensemen as Jacob Trouba and Adam Fox were both suffering from injuries that did limit their abilities to play.

Which means the team will need to increase their depth in their defense. With little cap room to work with and 19 players signed under contract, it will be tight for the Rangers to make a big splash on July 1st.

The Rangers may need to go bold and big potentially at the entry draft as they hold their first-round pick and could potentially look for help through the trade route. But there's work to be done and it will be a fascinating time for Drury and his management team.
