The New York Rangers enter the holiday break, outside of playoff contention. GM Chris Drury hasn't been afraid to make the hard decisions to ship players out of town. More players could be moved after the freeze.
The New York Rangers need a facelift, the team itself isn't capable of winning significant games and playing to the wire. The production isn't there, and neither is the defense.
With Jacob Trouba and Kaapo Kakko being the latest to be moved, here's an idea of who is next on the block.
The team is 16-16-1 and 6th in the Metropolitan Division, hardly a winning team and it appears no one could be safe from GM Chris Drury.
Chris Kreider has seen his production decline this season, scoring only 12 points( 11 G, 1 A) in 29 games. While Kreider has a 15-NTC, GM Chris Drury might have to retain a percentage of his $6.5 Million salary.
He could be moved to the Western Conference, and the teams involved could be the Utah HC, Los Angeles Kings, and the Dallas Stars.
Smith has underperformed during his short stint with the Rangers. He's also a pending UFA and could find himself once again wearing another team's uniform soon.
He has 16 points( 7 G, 9 A) in 31 games this season. His cap hit is $3.75 million AAV and has an 8-team no-trade clause attached.
While he may have some say in the matter, the Rangers could find a suitor with 24 teams he wouldn't mind being traded to.
This isn't the first time, Filip Chytil has been named in trade rumors. With his solid play this season scoring 12 points( 6 G, 6 A) in 25 games, he could find suitors who could give him a fresh start.
He's signed through the 2026-2027 season, with a $4.4 Million cap hit, and could spark some interest after proving to be a reliable forward this season.
With no trade protection, Chytil could prove to yield valuable assets, if a team is willing to give him a fresh start.
