On This Day in New York Rangers history, a legend is born. That legend is Ron Greschner who was born on December 22nd, 1954. He'd spend his entire NHL career in New York.

The New York Rangers organization wished legend Ron Greschner a Happy Birthday, as the retired legend was born today in 1954.

Greschner played all 982 games of his NHL career with the New York Rangers, a feat we don't see as often anymore in the league.

He was originally drafted 32nd overall in the 2nd round of the 1974 NHL Draft, and would later join the team after a short stint with the Providence Reds in the AHL.

He'd score 11 points( 5 G, 6 A) in 7 games with the Reds, and would join the Rangers later during the 1974-1975 season.

Greschner believe it or not, still feels as if MSG is home.

"I go to The Garden for almost every game,» Greschner said recently. «Every time I go there, it still feels like the first time I went. I can't wait to get there, and I go with my kids there and they're all Rangers fans. It's hard to believe it was that long ago when I got here and that I'm still here.»

As he should, the defenseman spent his entire career on Broadway and scored 610 points( 179 G, 431 A) wearing a Blueshirt.

He'd never win a Stanley Cup with the franchise, but did play in a Finals series against the Montreal Canadiens in 1978-1979.

The team was able to advance thanks to Greschner's power-play goal on the New York Islanders Chico Resch in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Despite being the underdogs against the Islanders, the Blueshirts held a three-games-to-two lead heading into Game 6 of the series at MSG. With the score tied, 1-1, in the second period and the Rangers on a power play, Greschner took a slap shot from just inside the blue line that beat Islanders goaltender Chico Resch. The goal gave the Rangers a lead they would not relinquish, as they defeated the Islanders, 2-1, to advance to the Stanley Cup Final and give The Garden Faithful one of its fondest memories.
Greschner's face is plastered all over the internet, with former wife and Supermodel Carol Alt.

He's also built the Ron Greschner Foundation which supports autism research and awareness.
