Last evening, Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas and assistant general manager Jason Spezza were spotted at the Hartford Wolf Pack game as trade rumors continue to swirl around the Rangers.

It appears that the Rangers are not done in their mid season remodel of the team as the current Christmas trade freeze is in place.

The Penguins, who are also working on the roster to try to improve it after several years of poor performances may be willing to look at doing a large trade with their metropolitan division rival.

During the latest episode of the 32 thoughts podcast, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman had mentioned but he thinks the Rangers are preparing to do a very large trade as they have been clearing the decks for the past couple of weeks with the trades of Kappo Kakko to Seattle and Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks which has now cleared almost $8 million worth of cap space.

The Rangers currently hold $21 million in deadline cap space which could re model the entire Rangers organization.

Some are suggesting that general manager Chris Drury may be willing to go after defenseman Erik Karlsson and or Evgeni Malkin that's a way to shake up the roster and bring some star power to deepen the Rangers for another run of the playoffs.

Friedman was also quick to point out that the Rangers have a long road ahead of them now that they have put themselves in a position to only qualify for a wild card spot.

The Rangers are currently 10 points behind the Carolina Hurricanes which sit in 3rd in the division. It's safe to say that the Rangers path to the playoffs will be through the wild card which are currently battling with the Ottawa Senators and the Boston Bruins.

Drury Have taken the Rangers down this path and have shaken the team to its core with his recent moves, it's likely he's not done and that he will continue to shake up the Rangers till the end of the season.
