The New York Rangers are undergoing a crisis since they have little better than a .500 record. They also have a Head Coach that the team is tuning out, as they have failed to perform up to expectations. With news of Sean Avery putting his name in the hat for the Coaching position, could there be a change soon?

While the Rangers are in the thrall of chaos, with changes afoot weekly, the team could look remarkably different in 2025. It's been reported that the team hasn't considered firing Head Coach Peter Laviolette.

Could there be a time when we see Laviolette's seat hot? Where he's at risk of losing his job?

Well, enter Sean Avery and Steve Ott, as the former Rangers forward who has voiced his displeasure with the team's performance has put his name in the mix for the Head Coaching job.

Avery has played 580 games in the NHL, never won a cup, and has scored only 247 points( 90 G, 157 A).

While we appreciate his passion for the Rangers, this seems like a bit of a stretch for even the former enforcer.

The Athletic's Arthur Staple wondered who would be next to leave the Rangers' sinking ship. He suggested Peter Laviolette's tenure as coach could end prematurely, but the New York Post's Larry Brooks claimed management has little stomach for a coaching change after making two since 2021.

The Hockey News' Remy Mastey wrote that if the Rangers have already gone through David Quinn and Gerard Gallant and still have issues with physicality and strength on defense, coaching might not be the problem.

According to multiple reports, Peter Laviolette may not be the issue in New York.

So does Avery have any ground to stand on when it comes to his application, with Blues Assistant Coach Steve Ott, as part of his chosen staff?

It doesn't seem likely that Laviolette will be fired anytime soon, as Drury is whittling through the ranks in order to bring in new blood.
