Yes the Rangers were shorthanded tonight.

Yes they are still in first in the Metropolitan Division. I get it.

But this has been plaguing the Rangers for a long while now, their issues on the defensive end.

The Rangers had an 8-point cushion in the Metropolitan Division after beating the Capitals 5-1 on Dec. 27.

That lead is down to 3 points between the Hurricanes win and tonight's loss against the St. Louis Blues.

The Rangers have now given up 5+ goals 10 times this year.

Opponents' rush attacks are still giving the Rangers fits, and New York had no answer for Jordan Kyrou tonight.

This is the more pressing issue, the Rangers allowing goals in clusters.

11 of our 14 losses (79%) our opposition has scored two goals within 4 mins.

8 of our 14 losses (57%) our opposition has scored two goals within 2 mins.

16 of our 40 overall games (40%) our opposition has scored two goals within 4 mins.

The Rangers will need to figure this out somehow either in a trade or a signing piece.

The Rangers injuries have caught up to them for sure, but these defensive woes have been happening all season, it seems.

Thankfully we are only halfway through the season, and the trade deadline is March 8th.

There is plenty of time to correct the sinking ship.
