Trade Target For Rangers Unlikely Due To NHL Rule, Insider Says
There is only a week left before the trade deadline, and the Rangers have yet to make a move.
One name that has popped up repeatedly is a reunion with Vladimir Tarasenko.
That being said, that same speculation came with the caveat the Ottawa Senators would need to retain some of Vladimir Tarasenko's $5 million salary in order for the cap-strapped Rangers to bring him back.
Well thanks to rules in the collective bargaining agreement, that can't happen.
The Rangers cannot reacquire Vladimir Tarasenko in a retained transaction.
It's one calendar year from the last day he was on their reserve list, which would have been June 30, 2023.
Vladimir Tarasenko apparently really wanted to stay with the Rangers, but the front office couldn't figure out a solution.
Only time will tell what direction the Rangers will go.
