The New York Rangers need something, anything this offseason. They fell short to the Florida Panthers in six games in the Eastern Conference Finals because they got out-worked, out-played, and zone times were horrible. They couldn't clear the puck.
So, to get a revamp, they'll need money. And right now, the Rangers don't have a whole lot of money. What can they do?
Well, they can buy out forward Barclay Goodrow.
Goodrow is 31 years old, and is currently making $3.6 million as a fourth line center. You shouldn't be paying your fourth line center 3.6 milliom dollars. That is outrageous, even if the organization thinks highly of him.
If you buy Goodrow out 48 hours after the Cup is hoisted, you actually get a salary cap credit as well, north of $240,000, so it doesn't really cost you much. And the year where the buy out penalty is the worst, it'll be in 2026-27, where the cap should be over $97 million.
This is a no brainer for the Rangers.
