Will Jacob Trouba suffer the same fate as former Maple Leafs captain John Tavares?
Before the start of the 2024-2025 regular season, Brad Treliving patched Auston Matthews in as the Maple Leafs' newest Captain. It, of course, required Tavares to be humble enough to relinquish the role.
This of course is leading to speculation that John Tavares could be on his way out of Toronto after next season as well.
Does that set a precedent for Jacoba Trouba and the New York Rangers?
Trouba has been the Rangers Captain since 2019 and has been a vital piece in the lineup and in the community.
But with news that the Rangers were trying to send Trouba to the Detroit Red Wings. Yet nothing would occur, and Trouba would stay in New York City, to support his family obligations.
Should the Rangers figure out a trade in the future, who would take over as Captain? Chris Kreider, Mika Zibanejad, Artemi Panarin, Adam Fox or Vinnie Troecheck?
For now, there's no evidence that GM Chris Drury remove Trouba from the captaincy, as he's a reliable and strong leader for the Rangers.
«Jacob plays hard every night, provides a lot of leadership for us,» Drury said via The New York Posts' Mollie Walker. «Jacob knows what I think of him as a person and a player»
Right now, changing the dynamic of the locker room could lead to inner conflict and turmoil.
With the Rangers coming off of a Presidents Trophy Year, and a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals, the Rangers need to keep it status quo.
So for now, it's safe to say that Trouba is not going to suffer the same fate as Tavares.
