Today some interesting and worrisome news came out involving Washington Capitals Star Alexander Ovechkin.

In an article that was released by Maxime Truman, he claims "that a bank account belonging to Ovechkin has been frozen [in his home country]... due to an unpaid debt of less than 550 US dollars to the federal tax department of his home country."

So Alexander Ovechkin's main professional account in his home county has been frozen due to an unpaid debt worth less than $550 US dollars to the Federal tax department.

Championat reporting that Alex Ovechkin's business bank account has been frozen due to a debt of 49,000 rubles (~$543 USD) in federal taxes. Not a good time to owe the government money in Russia I presume.

This is definitely a situation that you don't hear of everyday, leaving many questions left unanswered. Hoping other Russian stars are not affected by this.

Ovechkin has reportedly made roughly around 140 million dollars in his career according to CapFriendly, making this a very stressful situation to be in.

Let's just hope everything can be resolved for Ovechkin, and it speaks volumes about the current situation in his home country.

According to a source close to Alex Ovechkin, he is not at fault and will not be facing a criminal charges.

UPDATE
Here's what a source close to Ovi told Match TV

"Ovechkin himself does not owe anything, this is a technical error. The individual entrepreneur does not conduct commercial activities; it only has patents for Alexander's trademarks. Our accountant is looking into this now"

Definitely hope this doesn't also affect New York Rangers star Artemi Panarin, as he is also from Russia. Panarin needs to be completely focused on his game as the Eastern Conference Finals start.
