Several including Leon Draisaitl will be eligible to sign with their present team to a long-term contract at a max rate of up to 8 years.
Many Oilers fans feel this will be done rather quickly but according to one NHL insider; it seems that this may not be the case which has been leading some concerning thoughts amongst the Oilers fan base.
TSN insider Darren Dreger feels that Draisaitl may wait after July 1st to lock up a new deal with the Oilers.
Depending on how the Oilers perform in this years playoffs whether it's a first-round exit or winning the Stanley Cup may determine his decision.
When asked these questions over the last number of months, Draisaitl has been rather aloof with his answers and not really giving a firm commitment to the Oilers as other teammates have.
This could all be part of the plan as many NHLer's do not tip their hand and let their agent do all the work.
He has had a solid productive season with the Oilers even though his numbers are not as drastic as they were over the last few.
Head coach Kris Knoblauch has been trying to find a consistent set of wingers to play with Draisaitl and recently it seems he has found two that work well.
It will come down to either money or the loyalty to Edmonton to keep Draisaitl with the team long term and it's unknown how he will sway.
