The waiver wire is seeing some action on Sunday afternoon, after being relatively quiet, as two players from the Tri-State area have been placed on waivers, along with a former New York Rangers forward.

Early in the 2024-25 preseason we seen many players hit the waiver wire, sometime up to about 50 players a day, but since the regular season started it has slowed down quite a bit. However, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that the New York Islanders and the New Jersey Devils have both placed one player on waivers.

Starting with the Islanders, as they placed a former first-round pick, Julien Gauthier, who joined the Islanders last season and managed to tally 5 goals and 9 points in only 27 games played, along with playing 17 games with their AHL affiliate team, the Bridgeport Islanders.

Gautheir was also a former New York Rangers, as he joined the organization back in the 2019-20 season and stayed with the organization until the 2022-23 season before being traded to the Ottawa Senators. During his time with the Rangers he played in 131 games and managed to tally 11 goals and 15 assists.

However, it appears that Gauthier will return with the Bridgeport Islanders for the 2024-25 season after making only one appearance in the NHL this season, recording zero points.

After Gauthier was placed on waivers, the New Jersey Devils placed former third-round pick Adam Beckman on waivers after he was acquired by the organization during the offseason, as he spent the last five years with the Minnesota Wild.

The 23-year old forward, tallied two assists in 11 games for the Minnesota Wild last season, but despite the production he managed for their AHL team, they believed it was time to move on from the young forward. Beckman has not played any games for the Devils this season, as the organization likely only needs his forward depth in the AHL, or even for another team.

At the end of the day, there haven't been any big names to hit waivers, but it's very likely that we will see some veterans hit the wire.
