Since the Hockey Hall of Fame goaltender retired, he's served in a business operations role for MSG and became an analyst for TNT. Eventually Lundqvist would share the trailer for a documentary that followed his story that lead to his retirement.
The film, «Open Heart» debuted over the summer at Tribeca Film Festival and will arrive on Netflix in May.
In a four minute preview, the film follows Lundqvist to doctors appointments after he signed his one-year, $1.5 million contract with the Washington Capitals. Lundqvist stated that getting a bunch of tests and blood work done while going through the process of joining a new team is normal procedure.
Henrik Lundqvist would then return and suit up in a Capitals practice jersey just 44 days after his operation, with being just three days away from joining the the Capitals active roster he then received more disheartening news, that the doctors had found inflammation around his heart. This ultimately led Lundqvist to announcing his retirement in the summer of 2021.
The documentary, directed by the Emmy-nominated Jonathan Hock, follows Lundqvist's journey and includes interviews with the goaltender's family and teammates. Carl Hagelin, Lundqvist's teammate with the Rangers and Capitals, is featured in the trailer.
