The Norris Trophy is named after James E. Norris, the longtime owner of the Detroit Red Wings. This trophy is awarded yearly to the National Hockey League's leading defense player who indicates for the duration of the season the best aptitude in this setting.
Fans seem to think that Hughes and Makar are a close call and that both deserve to have the award, while other fans have stated that there was a selection of other players who were better qualified to be elected. Obviously, the professional hockey writer's association didn't agree. Other fans went on to say that the professional hockey writer's association chose based on names and not actual stats.
Regardless, the three finalists that were chosen, are all a close call for me. It seems each have a very good reason for being selected. Quinn Hughes from the Vancouver Canucks is looking to become the fourth U.S.-born player to receive the award, while Roman Josi from the Nashville Predators is the oldest and third time finalist, lastly Cale Makar from the Colorado Avalanche is the second accelerated defensemen in league history to acquire the landmark.
The professional hockey writer's association has a lot to think about in making this decision. My vote is for Roman Josi from the Nashville Predators since he has been nominated three times in a row. May the best blue liner win.
