The NHL trade deadline is approaching rapidly as NHL franchises continue to enquire on help that will help them solidify a playoff spot and potentially a long playoff run to the Stanley Cup.

Over the past several days, several Canadian NHL franchises have made trades amongst each other which have raised the eyebrows of many pundits considering some are in the same division.
With Sean Monahan no longer available as he was traded to the Winnipeg Jets from the Montreal Canadiens, the Rangers may need to look in their own division as one centre could be available from the Philadelphia Flyers in Scott Laughton.
The Flyers have been telling the NHL that they are in a full rebuild.
Their season has been a pleasant surprise, and it has augmented the value of many of their players who have been pegged to be for sale at the beginning of March.
Scott Laughton could help the Rangers as he would fit at a $3,000,000 cap hit and would have term of two years remaining on his deal after this season is over.
His experience and depth scoring would give the Rangers someone at the 3C position. During this season, he has played 50 games, scoring five goals of 15 is for 20 points.
With the salary cap going up over 4.5 million next year an no certain timeline on when Filip Chytil will return, A player like Laughton would give Chris Drury cost certainty.
The cost of acquiring him would not be as expensive as Monahan as he would continue to be a bottom 6 role and may only need a 3rd round draft pick and prospect.
