As most NHL pundits and fans across the league watch big names like William Nylander and Auston Matthews signed their new deals, many have turned their attention to the West Coast and the Vancouver Canucks.
The Canucks are currently flying as high as they've ever been as they are having a fantastic turn around season.
One player who is a driver for much of this success is Canucks forward Elias Pettersson.
As the Canucks has been busy retooling their team and making major changes on their defensive end and bottom 6, Elliotte Freidman of Sportsnet stated that contract negotiations are not moving as quick as they hoped with Elias Pettersson and now teams are calling to see where the contract negotiations stand.
It would send shockwaves across the NHL if he could not be signed by the Canucks.
The 25-year-old superstar who was selected in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, first round 5th overall has played 60 games, scored 29 goals with 45 assists for 74 points and a + 14.
He is concluding his three-year $22.05 million contract as he holds a cap hit of $7.35 million per season.
He is expected to go north of 11,000,000 per year and if the Canucks are hopeful, he will sign for the full eight years.
A player of his caliber cannot be lost and would seriously damage the Canucks for the long term if he walks.
