Major Blockbuster Trade: Matthew Tkachuk was traded today
On this day two years ago Matthew Tkachuk was as involved in a massive blockbuster trade.
On this day in 2022 the NHL saw one of the most unfair trades to go down in history as Matthew Tkachuk got traded to the Florida Panthers.
The reason this was such a lopsided trade was the return, as the Calgary Flames got Jonathan Huberdeau, MacKenzie Weegar, Cole Schwindt and a 2025 1st round pick.

In the moment of the trade it didn't seem like that bad of a deal considering Jonathan Huberdeau just came off a 115 point season where he put up 30 goals and 85 assists in just 80 games for the Florida Panthers.
However, since his arrival in Calgary he has been on a bit of a struggle, as he only put up 55 points in his first year with the Flames and then 52 points last season.
On the other side of the deal, since the Panthers traded Huberdeau for Matthew Tkachuk, the organization went on to the Stanley Cup Finals in back-to-back years, and won the Stanley Cup this year.
