Recent reports reveal why the Rangers and Patrik Laine need each other
Since Patrik Laine has been cleared from the NHLPA Players Assistance Program, there's been a lot of speculation regarding his next landing spot.
There have been several teams linked to Laine, including the Montreal Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins, Colorado Avalanche, and Buffalo Sabres are some teams involved.
But NHL Insider Frank Seravalli believes the Rangers are the one to win this sweepstakes.
«They don't have the cap space, but what about a team like the NYR? I could see [Laine] fitting on the right side. That would make a ton of sense to me,» Seravalli said.
Laine would serve well as a weapon on the power play, desperately needed, as well as an explosive offensive talent.
The complex part of the deal is the $8.7 Million dollar cap hit that comes attached to Laine, which means GM Don Waddell would have to consider retaining salary to sweeten the deal.
In this past season with the Columbus Blue Jackets Laine tallied 9 points( 6 G, 3 A) in 18 games with the Jackets.
