Transaction: The price for the Rangers to acquire Jake Guentzel revealed
The Carolina Hurricanes will not be able to sign forward Jake Guentzel and as a result, will place him on the trade block.
This is a situation, where the New York Rangers could immediately upgrade their forward core on the left side.
But that won't come cheap, especially from a division rival, such as the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Carolina Hurricanes will ask in return for Jake Guentzel's services, a mid-1st round pick.
This means, if the Rangers want to make a deal to improve their offense significantly, with 30-goal scorer Guentzel, they need to deal their 30th overall pick, for Guentzel.
"The price to pay? A first-round pick. This is what Elliotte Friedman reports.
It appears (Jake Guentzel) is available for a 1st round pick. I think Carolina has let everyone know that if you want to trade for his rights, for a chance to sign him, it's possible in exchange for a first-round pick. - Elliotte Friedman
That is an expensive price, but a player of Guentzel's caliber won't come cheap.
Considering this is the only Rangers pick during the 1st round, with nothing in the 2nd would be a bold move for Chris Drury.
The buy-in would have to be worth it, and the team should consider whether they can sign him after the fact, for that kind of capital
Guentzel is a two-time Stanley Cup winner with the Pittsburgh Penguins and played 67 games split between the Hurricanes and Penguins this year.
He scored 77 points( 30 G, and 47 A) and will be a sought-after asset on the market when July 1st rolls around if he's not dealt before then.
