It's not surprising that the most controversial defenseman in the NHL will now be playing in the KHL this season.

DeAngelo would be furious with the fact, he'd have to forego another NHL season because no one would sign him.
He'd have to move to Russia and play in the second-best league in the world, the KHL.
He joins almost several other former NHLers from Russia, Sweden, and other countries who went to the league, after failing to find a team who'd sign them.
Instead of taking his medicine, he would launch a tirade, something we're quite familiar with when it comes to Tony.
DeAngelo left the NHL, after his regression in Carolina was massive, scoring only 11 points( 3 G, 8 A) in in games with the Hurricanes. This was only two seasons removed when he was still considered one of the best defensemen tallying 51 points, and 53 points in 2020, and 2021.
DeAngelo says he "considered every option", including signing a PTO contract in the NHL: "Any option was on the table, but as I said, the best option for me was this one."

DeAngelo said he was frustrated that NHL teams were unwilling to give him a second chance. He reflected on his time in the league and was overwhelmed with disappointment in how the situation played out.
"I waited through most of the summer," DeAngelo said in a one-on-one interview with RG.org. "It took a bit long. It was back and forth. With a bunch of different things, the negotiation process wasn't where we wanted to go. I had a great opportunity to come here and play in a great League with great players. It was the best situation for myself at this time."

There are reports that DeAngelo signed a meager contract with the KHL club SKA St. Petersburg. It is stacked with incentives. It's a sign that even the KHL realizes how much of a time bomb DeAngelo could be.
Until then, a return to the NHL seems unlikely, as he is even accepting the reason why he's had to go overseas.
