This is likely the next shoe to drop as the Rangers continue to struggle this season after starting out well with a 12-4-0 record and have had an abysmal time since.
There have been several reports from Rangers management that ownership along with general manager Chris Drury would not like to fire Laviolette as the Rangers have gone through three coaches in the last four years.
But the losses are continuing to pile up and even though Drury has made changes to the lineup by trading their captain Jacob Trouba, removing Barclay Goodrow in the summer and trading Kappo Kakko to the Seattle Kraken, it seems the changes have not been effective and maybe they need to be done behind the bench.
It seems inconceivable that the Rangers would want to fire Laviolette after posting the best record in the regular season for the Rangers in their history at 55 wins and winning the President's Trophy as the best team in the NHL during the regular season.
But something is clearly wrong with the team and whether it has to do with management damaging the morale in the dressing room along with the trust to the players tuning out the coaches' message which has been vigorously denied by all players that have been interviewed since the tailspin begun.
The messaging has been all well and good as everyone wants to keep Laviolette behind the bench but there will come a point in time where the Rangers will need to make a change, and it may be the change they don't want to do but maybe the change they have to do.
The Rangers lost their game against the Florida Panthers 5-3 last evening.
