New York Rangers General Manager Chris Drury calls an emergency meeting with several veterans after troubling start of the season.

Despite the Rangers sitting at a 12-7-1 record through their first 20 games, the last week has been filled with speculation and drama.

The most shocking news was when NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that the New York Rangers have placed Chris Kreider and Jacob Trouba on the trade block.

While many believed this was only to get the team sparked, but it definitely seems to be more than that as GM Chris Drury reportedly held a meeting with Kreider, Trouba and other veteran players to pull the squad back together.

«A Rangers source said Drury did meet with Trouba later in the day Tuesday, as well as Kreider and other veterans, before the team flew to Raleigh. The source characterized the meetings as honest, productive conversations.

If Drury's league-wide trade call was meant as a message, those meetings were probably necessary to ensure the team can stay together and not fracture.»

This definitely isn't a good sign for the New York Rangers season, as they have been struggling at finding momentum on the ice and have seem to have lost their spark.

However, the source inside the organization revealed that the conversation was honest and productive, but it could simply mean that Chris Drury is just buying himself time.

As of now, the trade speculation surrounding Trouba and Kreider won't stop anytime soon, unless they both prove everyone wrong with their upcoming performances and they will get the chance to do so very soon.

As the New York Rangers are set to faceoff against the Carolina Hurricanes tonight at 7:00PM.
