Former New York Rangers enforcer receives multi-game suspension for illegal headshot

NHL Department of Player Safety has officially suspended former New York Rangers enforcer.

Former New York Rangers forward Ryan Reaves has officially learned his fate after laying a brutal headshot on Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse.

Ryan Reaves, who is known for his physical style of play has unfortunately found himself at the centre of controversy after he laid a massive headshot hit on Darnell Nurse Saturday night.

After a very short review, the NHL officials gave the 37-year old enforcer a major and match penalty for the hit.

However, any calls that receive a game misconduct instantly get viewed by the NHL Department of Player Safety, and they didn't waste anytime as they announced that Ryan Reaves would have a hearing today for this hit.

After a much anticipated wait, the fate of Reaves has been revealed, as the NHL Department of Player Safety has decided to suspend Ryan Reaves for five games for his illegal hit to the head of Darnell Nurse.

Toronto's Ryan Reaves has been suspended for five games for an illegal check to the head against Edmonton's Darnell Nurse.

Hopefully Darnell Nurse can recover quickly from this hit, but it's likely he will miss a game or two due to concussion protocols.
