The New York Rangers' hopes of a reunion with former forward Frank Vatrano are dashed. The Anaheim Ducks have locked down the All-Star to a three-year deal.

GM Pat Verbeek made sure that no other team will have a chance to snag veteran Frank Vatrano from the Ducks, whether by trade or at free agency.

He has signed Frank Vatrano to a three-year $18 Million deal, which pays him $3 Million AAV, with $9 Million of his salary deferred.

With his new deal, he'll get a similar deal we've seen with Rick Dipietro, and Bobby Bonilla, where he'll be paid $900K annually starting in 2035.

Last season in 82 games with the Ducks, he scored 60 points( 37 G, 23 A) and got the All-Star nod in Toronto last year.

With Vatrano being off the market, GM Chris Drury will have to look for other talent at the deadline in order to improve the club.

Vatrano played with the New York Rangers in the last quarter of the 2021-2022 season, under Head Coach Gerard Gallant, and would eventually make his way to Anaheim, as GM Chris Drury let him walk.

The New York Rangers acquired Vatrano in a deal with the Florida Panthers prior to last season's trade deadline.

Vatrano had a combined 18 goals and 14 assists in 71 games with the Panthers and Rangers last season.

Vatrano originally signed his first contract, a $10.95 Million value in early July 2022 and has been a staple in the team's top six.

Another case of the coulda, woulda, should for GM Chris Drury as they lose another option in March and July.

Vatrano has a bright future in Anaheim.

Do you think GM Chris Drury of the New York Rangers was a fool for letting forward Frank Vatrano walk in free agency?
