The New York Rangers are open to moving multiple players off of the roster. But one player who remains safe is Center Vinnie Troecheck. GM Chris Drury has refused to make him available while keeping players like Chris Kreider on the trade block.

The Rangers, however, continue to receive calls about the availability of Vinnie Troecheck.

Whom GM Chris Drury intends to keep as a piece in the Rangers' future according to the 32 Thoughts Podcast's Elliotte Friedman.

«The most coveted Ranger is undoubtedly Vincent Trocheck,» Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman wrote. «But they aren't interested in doing that, and, listening to his comments lately, you could see them making him captain.»

In former Captain Jacob Trouba's absence, Troecheck has stepped up in his stead.

Troecheck's been unafraid of answering the media's questions and says what needs to be said unapologetically.

Could Vinnie Troecheck be in line for the Rangers to put the next "C" on?

It's clear to everybody around the organization that Trocheck is the unofficial captain and it's only a matter of time before he is rewarded with the captaincy.

Remy Mastey of the The Hockey News believes so.

While the Rangers' laundry list of trade bait continues, Troecheck remains safe and hasn't been a liability for the team compared to some veterans.

For all the players mentioned in trade rumors between Chris Kreider, Mika Zibanejad and Ryan Lindgren, Trocheck's name has not been mentioned, and it's no coincidence.

Troecheck is in year three of a seven-year deal, which pays him $5.625 Millon AAV which he signed on July 13, 2022 with the Rangers.

This season he's scored 28 points (13 G, 15 A) in 41 games, and his linemates are Alexis Lafreniere, and Artemi Panarin.

In the last 10 games with the Rangers, he's been a point-per-game player with 10 points (5 G, 5 A), 29 shots on goal, 16 blocks, and averages 22.35 TOI a night.

It's doubtful that GM Chris Drury will move on from Troecheck anytime soon.
