Igor Shesterkin rejects record-breaking contract offer from the New York Rangers
New York Rangers starting goaltender Igor Shesterkin has rejected the highest goalie contract ever in the history of the NHL.
Shesterkin will be a UFA at the end of the 2024-2025 season and has been stated to be in the Ranger's long-term plans. The complications though are as follows, Shesterkin refuses to discuss a deal while the season is ongoing.
This means, that on October 9th against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the team won't be able to discuss a contract with him until after April, or June depending upon how far this group goes.
With that being said it was just reported by NHL inside Kevin Weeks that the New York Rangers have offered Shesterkin a contract worth $88 million that would carry a $11 million AAV (8x$88M).

Shesterkin could come into 2025-2026 being the highest-paid goalie in the NHL surpassing Carey Price's $10.5 Million AAV. However He believes he's worth more than that.
Shesterkin on how he feels about the New York Rangers organization:
«I love the organization, I love the team, I love the fans,» Shesterkin told reporters. «So, of course, it would be great to stay here. But you never know what can happen.»
New York Rangers opening night will be in Pittsburgh tomorrow night, and Rangers general manager�Chris Drury�will have wait the entire 82-game schedule to offer another deal, depending on if he's willing to dish out more money keep Shesterkin.
