Igor Shesterkin looked a bit banged up after Brady Tkachuk barreled into him. He eventually got up and joined the scrum in time to go after Tkachuk, who sent him back onto the ice.
The goalie then got up and went after Tkachuk again. Penalties being sorted out now.
Shesterkin punched several times by Tkachuk
The play took place in the Rangers end in the third period at 12 minutes and 53 seconds when a scrum formed around the Rangers goaltender in which the referees
lost control, and several players threw punches at one another.
The situation worsened as Tkachuk crashed into Shesterkin and threw a few punches that landed and left the goaltender dazed and slow to get up.
Shortly after, Shesterkin gained his composure and seeked out the Senators captain and threw a few punches of his own with his blocker in which the melee boiled over with more penalties assessed both teams.
The Rangers won the game 5-0 and during the post game scrum with the media, Mollie Walker of the New York Post spoke to Shesterkin who gave his take on what happened between himself and Tkachuk.
"I just got couple punches from Tkachuk. To be honest, this was [from his] hit on me. Not really enjoy that, because I was between the pipe and him.
I didn't want to jump there, but I saw he get [inaudible] on a fight between our guy and their guy, so I just tried to hold him, but he wanted to fight.
It's tough for me because I cannot drop my gloves. If I do that, I will go to locker room." Igor

Rangers appear to be improving in 2025
The Rangers season seems to have stabilized as the team has had an improved record in 2025 compared to their dreadful record in December of 2024.
With rumors of
J.T. Miller potentially coming to the team, this has not slowed them down as they have accumulated 17 points in their last 11 games played it has risen in the standings and only two points out of a wild card.
As the Rangers continue to improve, it may change the trajectory of their March trade deadline as many people have felt that they may be sellers rather than buyers but that may not be the case as the team may want to add if they feel they are confident that they will make a playoff spot.
The next few weeks will be interesting as the team finishes January and early February before the two week break for
the Four Nations face off.
