Recent report confirms the New York Rangers will be parting ways with goaltender at the NHL trade deadline
The New York Rangers will need to acquire assets in order to rebuild the lineup, and veterans could be flying out the door soon to their next team. One of those players is Jonathan Quick, who can be a reliable backup.
The New York Rangers will have to decide what their next step with Jonathan Quick is, as they continue to reshape the lineup in the hopes of making a run at the postseason.
Teams could use a reliable backup goalie which Quick has proven to be during his short stint in New York.
He's proven to be a reliable mentor for the young players and can be counted on to play quality minutes, albeit limited in the amount of games played.
Quick, who is 39 years old, has played 19 games this season and won eight games posting a 3.09 goals-against-average (GAA) and a .897 save percentage adding two shutouts.
Who could utilize the veteran goalie's talents from March until the end of the season?
The Oilers are one NHL team who are always against the cap ceiling, and if the team is interested in acquiring Quick he'd be an easy snag, at $1.275 million.
His track record in New York has spoken for itself, as he's given the Rangers ample play, and has helped the team win 8 games this season and two shutouts.
No one has expected the quality of play from him as the team has gotten, and that could prove to be attractive to the Oilers who need help in the net, as the
Calvin Pickard and
Stuart Skinner duo isn't doing as well as they've hoped.
The Hurricanes are always a team in the hunt for postseason glory, and Quick could be a reliable backstop to
Frederik Andersen.
The team's weak spot has always been in the net and has been a constant sore spot as they've been unable to push deeper than the second round the past few seasons. A problem Quick could help solve.
As
Dustin Wolf has won the starting job in Calgary, they could look to find someone better than
Daniel Vladar to give the team a solid 1-2 punch in the Saddledome.
That could be Quick, who could give the Flames a shot at a deep run in the Western Conference should they decide to make a deal for him.
All three-teams have considerable assets and could make a deal work for the veteran Stanley Cup winner, should GM Chris Drury decide to part ways with the popular back up.
