The NHL has released an official announcement regarding New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba, this announcement may come as a surprise to many but Trouba has has been awarded the Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award for 2023-24!

The Mark Messier award is given out on an annual basis to a player who demonstrates exceptional leadership qualities on and off the ice, as well as contributes to the local community.
While many other NHL awards are voted on by media members, general managers, and or the players themselves, but this particular award is not chosen by a committee, or a voting group, but instead by only one man. Mark Messier himself.

Controversy has sparked as Many fans have made fun of the fact that Trouba was selected to win this award this year, manly due to a play just from a few days ago that shows why he might not be the best candidate for awards like this.
"There were a lot of solid candidates, but Jacob elbowed his way through. 😎"
"As a NYR fan this is comical, I hope they trade him at the end of the season."
On the play, Trouba deliberately tries to elbow Carolina Hurricanes forward Marty Necas in the head, but thankfully it missed.
