Major development has surfaced regarding coaching change coming to the New York Rangers
The New York Rangers have looked weak in early season play, with a 13-10-1 record in the Metropolitan Division. Laviolette and the Rangers have earned 4th place in the Metro, and don't look like President's Trophy Winners of yore.
Now, there's speculation that GM Chris Drury could find a replacement for Peter Laviolette to course-correct for the 2024 season.
The roster isn't terrible, but Laviolette has failed to establish what a winning team needs. Consistency in play, that is if the Blueshirts are ever to make it back to the Eastern Conference Finals.
According to NHL Insider Marco D'Amico, the clock is ticking on Laviolette's tenure in New York.
According to Marco D'Amico of RG.org, Laviolette «doesn't have long» to turn things around. General Manager Chris Drury is reportedly considering bringing in three-time Stanley Cup champion Joel Quenneville, a coach known for his ability to command respect and guide teams to deep playoff runs.
«Think of the respect he'd bring into that dressing room,» said a league source, highlighting Quenneville's reputation as a proven winner.
This wouldn't be the only change that could be coming down the road, as Drury is exploring a potential move of two veterans Jacob Trouba, and Chris Kreider.
But the current salary cap crunch makes it difficult to deliver immediate results, which GM Chris Drury needs. Often, it is the bench boss who is unknowingly the one to fall on his sword.
«If trades fail to deliver results, it's often the bench boss who takes the fall,» another source explained.
The next Rangers could be out there should GM Chris Drury make the move, and former three-time Stanley Cup-winning coach, Joel Quenneville has been in the rumor mill recently.
Quenneville is the 2nd winningest coach in the NHL and ushered in the Blackhawks dynasty.
Could he be the bold move to change the Rangers' fortunes?
«A three-time Cup champ hungry to coach again might be exactly what they need,» suggested one insider, noting the potential for Quenneville to steer the Rangers back on track and restore hope to their season.
Coach Quenneville has a 452-249-96 record in the NHL and three Stanley Cups.
