With both teams being at the top of their conferences and looking to secure a Stanley Cup this upcoming season, it would make sense for both teams to help each other out with a in-season trade.
Winnipeg Jets forward Nik Ehlers
Nik Ehlers has been potential trade candidate for the Jets since last July, when he didn't sign a contract extension. With that being said, it appears that the Jets are looking for a younger and speedier winger.
Just last season, Ehlers managed to put up 25 goals and 36 assists for a total of 61 points in 82 games played. However the 28-year old forward is currently signed for $6 million AAV for the 2024-25 season and had a 10-team no-trade clause with that contract.
So this only makes sense if the Rangers are not one of those ten teams.
Now, for the New York Rangers, they have a younger forward, Kaapo Kakko who hasn't quite lived up to expectations and could most likely be traded at some point this season.
However the Rangers have Re-signed Kaapo Kakko to a one-year contract extension during the offseason.
Like it was mentioned the 23-year old forward, hasn't lived up to the expectations, as last season he only managed to tally 13 goals and 6 assists for a total of 19 points in 61 games played, while his best season with the Rangers was during the 2022-23 season as he pitched up 40 points.
Both teams are not afraid of making big trades with each other so it's likely that these two teams are paying attention to each other this season a another possible move could be done before March's trade deadline.
