Of course, Shesterkin is an important piece of the team and GM Chris Drury would never treat Shesterkin disrespectfully, as according to NHL writer, Dan Rosen they intend to sign him in 2025-2026.
Shesterkin has one year left on his current NHL contract, and in the meantime, the salary cap floor will be raised, which will be a huge help for the Rangers when the time rolls around to sign one of the league's top goalies in the NHL.
Shesterkin has only played 213 games during his NHL career and as a 28-year-old goalie still hasn't hit his prime years.
Once GM Chris Drury and the Rangers do ink the best goalie in the NHL, he will be made one of the highest-paid goalies in the league.
He could also be waiting on Jeremy Swayman to get an idea of what AAV to hunt for as well before signing on the dotted line.
Shesterkin is far more accomplished with the Rangers, than Swayman is so he should fetch a better AAV than the Bruins goalie.
Of course, it's ideal if the Rangers could get a deal done with the Rangers before the season starts but there's no rush, no panic as the team intends to sign Shesterkin and keep him as long as possible.
