It's been a turbulent offseason for the Rangers and Trouba as general manager Chris Drury has made it clear that the organization would like to move away from their captain as he holds two more years left in his deal at $8 million per season.
The Rangers are in a cap crunch and are looking for ways to open salary cap to improve their players. It appeared that a deal was almost completed between the Rangers and the Detroit Red Wings for Trouba but that deal never materialized.
As for the captain, it has been mentioned by Larry Brooks of the New York Post that his feelings are hurt due to all the trade rumors and likely departure from the Rangers.
Having been with the team since 2019 and almost reaching the Stanley Cup finals this season wow putting together the best season in Rangers history with 55 wins, it's expected the Rangers will hang on to Trouba for the time being until the market allows a trade to occur and he can put his differences with the team aside.
It's hard to say what other moves Drury has in store for the team but with the lack of cap space, it's expected that he is done for the time being.
